Top 5 Best Trading Journals in 2026
TerraTrade, TradeZella, TraderSync, Edgewonk, and Tradervue compared on price, auto-sync, analytics, backtesting, and AI — with sources and dates.
By TerraTrade Team

A trading journal is the one tool where the buying decision actually compounds: whatever you pick becomes the system of record for every trade you take from here on. So the ranking below leans on things you can verify — prices, broker counts, what each tier actually includes — rather than vibes. Five journals, ranked, with the receipts.
1. TerraTrade#
Who it's for: traders who want the journal, the backtester, and the AI to share one dataset instead of three subscriptions — across stocks, options, futures, crypto, and forex in a single account.
What stands out:
- One matching engine, exact to the cent. Every import — longs, shorts, partial fills, even position reversals — runs through the same FIFO engine, with options sell-to-open handled first-class. Automatic MAE/MFE lands on every trade from full-resolution market data, and imports are idempotent, so re-running one can never duplicate a trade.
- Analytics that go past the calendar view. 35 reports including cross-analysis heatmaps, ~20 breakdown dimensions, a 6-axis Terra Score, and 57-widget drag-and-drop dashboards. Details on the features page.
- Backtesting is part of the journal, not a bolt-on. 14,000+ instruments of real history, a fill engine built to not flatter you (gap-through stops fill at the open against you), prop-firm risk rules — and every simulated close becomes a real journal trade, permanently walled off from your live stats. Trade Replay (Pro+) replays any finished trade candle-by-candle on 1-second data.
- TerraAI is on every plan and computes every answer from live queries over your own journal — real charts and tables inline, never an invented number.
Pricing: Essential $29/mo, Pro $49/mo, Ultra $89/mo — $26/$44/$80 on yearly billing. No free tier and no trial; cancel anytime, and your data exports freely.
The honest limitation: nine broker integrations at launch (seven auto-sync, two by file) is a fraction of what TradeZella or TraderSync advertise. CSV import covers most other brokers' exports, with up to 15 years of lookback — but if your broker isn't on the list, you're uploading files.
2. TradeZella#
Who it's for: active day and swing traders — especially futures, forex, and prop-firm traders — who want the most polished all-in-one paid journal in the category. Full breakdowns in our journaling and backtesting comparisons.
What stands out:
- 300+ analytics reports across seven dashboard views, plus the Zella Score — a 100-point rating built on consistency and trade quality rather than raw P&L. Widely regarded as the category leader for journaling breadth.
- 500+ broker integrations with automated sync, plus PropFirm Sync for tracking evaluations and funded accounts.
- Journal + backtester + replay in one product, with 11+ years of historical data (since 2014) and replay at 1-second precision on Pro and Ultra.
- An AI layer with agents — Zella AI reviews plus an Auto-Tagger, Session Review, and Market Sentiment agents, metered by monthly credits (500/1,500/3,000 by tier).
Pricing: repriced July 14, 2026 — Essential $35/mo, Pro $59/mo, Ultra $99/mo, with 25% off on annual billing ($26/$44/$74 per month). No free plan; a third-party review reports a 14-day money-back guarantee rather than a trial.
The honest limitation: the entry tier is thin — Essential excludes trade replay per TradeZella's own pricing pages (its help center says 10/mo; the sources conflict), 1-second precision is Pro+, and even Ultra caps automated backtests at 100 a month. There's also no mobile app, per StockBrokers.com.
3. TraderSync#
Who it's for: US equity and options traders who want the widest possible broker auto-import net and heavy report libraries, with a mobile app included on every tier. We compare it head-to-head in TraderSync vs TerraTrade.
What stands out:
- The biggest broker coverage claim on this list — TraderSync's pages cite 700+ supported brokers (some cite 900+), including prop firms like FTMO and TopStep plus MetaTrader 4/5 and NinjaTrader.
- Multi-asset journaling across stocks, options, futures, forex, and crypto, with a deep report library: P&L calendar, expectancy, time-of-day, and sector breakdowns.
- Cypher, an AI assistant that chats over your own trade history, plus a Strategy Checker on Premium and above and automatic Cypher Coach insights on Elite.
- A genuinely frictionless 7-day trial — no credit card, just a name and email, reportedly at Elite-level access.
Pricing: Pro $29.95/mo, Premium $49.95/mo, Elite $79.95/mo as of August 2026 (annual totals vary across sources). No permanent free tier, and one review notes an all-sales-final refund policy.
The honest limitation: the best of it lives on the $79.95 Elite tier — Cypher Coach, custom dashboards, portfolio analytics, full replay — and Cypher messaging is metered daily on every tier (roughly 5/15/60 messages a day, per two independent reviews). Reviewers also describe the interface as dated and dense.
4. Edgewonk#
Who it's for: psychology-focused traders — especially forex and futures — who want to fix behavioral leaks, and anyone who wants a serious journal at one flat price. Full comparison in Edgewonk vs TerraTrade.
What stands out:
- The Tiltmeter is a real differentiator: it rates your emotional state per trade, correlates it with performance, and puts a dollar figure on what tilt costs you. No other journal on this list quantifies psychology this directly.
- A Trading Psychology Lab for discipline and mindset tracking, plus an Edge Finder that scans your journal weekly for strengths and weaknesses.
- Deep classic analytics — 50+ pre-built reports plus 20 custom stat slots, MAE/MFE, entry/exit quality scoring, planned-vs-actual risk-reward.
- The widest asset coverage here: forex, stocks, futures, crypto, options, indices, commodities, and CFDs, with unlimited journals and accounts.
Pricing: one all-inclusive plan at $197/yr — roughly $16.40 a month, the cheapest serious journal on this list. No free trial; a 14-day money-back guarantee instead.
The honest limitation: imports are primarily manual CSV uploads via broker templates rather than direct API auto-sync, per an independent 2026 review — and there's no backtesting engine (a Monte-Carlo-style simulator only), no trade replay, and no mobile app.
5. Tradervue#
Who it's for: traders who want a mature, stable journal with real mentoring workflows — and the only genuinely free starting point on this list.
What stands out:
- ~15 years of track record and a claimed 207,623 traders — nothing else here comes close on longevity.
- A real free tier: up to 30 trades a month on stocks/ETFs with a P&L calendar and basic reports, per third-party reviews.
- Mentoring built in: read-only journal sharing with coaches or the community, plus message boards — a workflow the newer tools mostly skip.
- Solid analytics on Gold, including exit performance analysis (actual vs. theoretical best exit) and entries/exits plotted on TradingView charts.
Pricing: Free $0, Silver $29.95/mo, Gold $49.95/mo as of August 2026 (annual discounts are reported inconsistently across sources).
The honest limitation: no AI features on any plan per 2026 reviews, no backtesting, no trade replay, and 80+ broker integrations against rivals claiming 500–700+. Reviewers describe the design as dated.

What to actually look for#
Four filters do most of the work: does it import from your broker automatically, does it handle every asset class you trade in one place, is the AI (if any) computing from your data or generating prose, and is the feature you're buying it for on the tier you can afford — metered AI credits and tier-gated replay are where the sticker price and the real price diverge.
And before you pay anyone: the free calculators — position sizing, risk/reward, Monte Carlo, a prop-firm challenge simulator, and seven more — answer a lot of the questions a journal answers, need no account, and nothing leaves your browser.
Questions worth asking before you pay#
Can I move my history between journals?
Mostly yes, via CSV — every tool here exports and imports files. TerraTrade accepts CSV alongside broker sync with up to 15 years of import lookback, and imports are idempotent, so re-running a file can never create duplicates. Exports stay free even if you cancel.
Why does 'AI included' need a closer look?
Because it's metered nearly everywhere. TradeZella caps AI credits at 500/1,500/3,000 a month by tier; TraderSync caps Cypher at roughly 5/15/60 messages a day; no AI chat is documented for Edgewonk or Tradervue. TerraTrade meters too — 1,000/4,000/10,000 monthly credits by plan — but TerraAI is on every plan, and every answer is computed from live queries over your journal rather than generated from thin air.
Which of these has a free trial?
TraderSync — 7 days, no card required. TradeZella and Edgewonk offer money-back guarantees instead (14 days, the TradeZella one reported by a third-party review). Tradervue has a permanent free tier plus a paid-plan trial. TerraTrade has neither trial nor free tier: the plans are priced to be a no-brainer instead, and you can cancel anytime with free exports.
