TerraTrade vs FX Replay for Backtesting
A respected forex-first replay tool against a multi-asset backtester with an honest fill engine, prop-firm rules, and a full journal underneath.
By TerraTrade Team

FX Replay is a respected name in manual backtesting, and it earned that: browser-based candle-by-candle replay with future price hidden, forex history back to 2003, and an auto-journal of your practice trades. If you're comparing it to TerraTrade, you're a discretionary trader who wants to rehearse against real history — the question is what markets you trade, and what happens to those practice trades afterward.
| Dimension | TerraTrade | FX Replay |

One market deep, or every market you trade#
FX Replay's forex data is genuinely deep — major pairs back to May 2003, which lets you stress-test a strategy through 2008 and 2020. If you trade EUR/USD and nothing else, that depth is a real asset, and we won't pretend otherwise.
But most traders don't trade one market forever. FX Replay covers 120+ assets across six markets, with reviewers noting the depth is strongest for forex majors and thinner for futures contracts and crypto altcoins — and CME futures data requires the $35/mo Pro tier. TerraTrade's backtesting runs on 14,000+ instruments of real history across stocks, futures, forex, and crypto, with continuous futures stitched across ~40 products using 2-day-early rolls. The day you move from EUR/USD to ES or NVDA, your backtester comes with you.
What happens at the fill#
Replay tools live or die on execution honesty, because a flattering fill engine teaches you a strategy that doesn't exist. FX Replay's official copy says its execution is realistic; the specific order behavior — how stops fill through gaps, what happens when a bar touches stop and target — isn't enumerated on its site or in the reviews we consulted. It may well be sensible. You just can't check.
TerraTrade publishes the rules: gap-through stops fill at the open, against you. A bar that touches both stop and target counts the stop first. Market orders fill at the next bar's open. The engine is mutation-tested so those rules can't quietly drift. On top of that sit prop-firm risk rules — daily loss limits, drawdown circuit breakers, ATR and trailing stops — so evaluation prep happens under the same constraints the evaluation will impose. For fine-grained work, Pro+ adds 1-second tick data plus Level 2 DOM, tape, and volume profile/TPO; FX Replay offers 5- and 30-second candles on its Pro tier but no tick data, volume profile, or DOM.
The journal underneath#
FX Replay's Live Journal is one of its better ideas: replay trades log automatically, with a P&L calendar and time-of-day analytics. But it's a journal of your practice only — no broker connections are documented — and reviewers note the analytics stop short of expectancy curves and R-multiple distributions, so deeper stats mean exporting.
TerraTrade inverts this. The journal is the platform's foundation: nine brokers (seven auto-syncing), stocks, options, futures, crypto, and forex in one place, P&L exact to the cent, automatic MAE/MFE on every trade. Every simulated close from a backtest becomes a real journal trade through the same FIFO engine — permanently walled off from your live stats, with ~40 shared widgets, what-if analysis, 10 coaching insights, and a 10-axis scorecard comparing your practice to your live trading. That last part is the point of practicing: not "did the sim make money," but "do I trade better live because of it."
Review, replay, and one subscription#
Past the backtest, TerraTrade's Trade Replay (Pro+) replays your actual finished trades candle by candle with your fills on the tape — whole days, or 27 behavioral scenario playlists ranked by what each habit costs you in dollars. Ultra adds deliberate-practice drills with SM-2 spaced repetition from 28 seed sources. And TerraAI is on every plan, answering questions about your journal and your backtests with real computed charts and tables — 1,000 to 10,000 monthly credits depending on plan. FX Replay's Mentor AI gives behavioral feedback too, with limited queries on Intermediate and unlimited on Pro; it just has less to look at, because it never sees your live trading.
One subscription covers all of it — journal, backtesting, replay, AI. No separate journal tool to pay for.

Questions we expect#
Does TerraTrade have a free tier like FX Replay's?
No free tier and no trial. Plans are $29 / $49 / $89 a month ($26 / $44 / $80 yearly), you can cancel anytime, and your data exports freely. FX Replay's free Beginner tier allows 2 sessions with 1-week data retention as of August 2026 — enough to feel the tool, not to build a practice habit.
Can I bring my existing trade history over?
Yes — nine brokers (Robinhood, Coinbase, Tastytrade, cTrader, OANDA, Kraken, and TopstepX auto-sync; Webull and Tradier by file), plus CSV and manual entry, with up to 15 years of lookback. Imports are idempotent: re-running a file can never duplicate a trade.
Which plan gates what?
Backtesting and TerraAI are on every plan. Trade Replay, 1-second tick data, BigQuery, and Deep AI models are Pro and up. Drills, AI Agents, and the Public API are Ultra. Details on the pricing page.
